The Feeder Plus programme is for those who have been playing or singing for some time and want to take their music making to the next level. Many of our Feeder students begin their South West Music School lives on the Foundation programme, but it is not obligatory that students complete a year on Foundation before moving onto Feeder Plus. Dependent on your talent, commitment and attitude towards music, we often accept new students straight onto the Feeder Plus programme.
The Feeder Plus programme offers:
- Three mini weekend residentials per year (one per term)
- Opportunity to participate in SWMS’ menu of genre and instrument short courses
- A bespoke mentoring and tuition package
The Feeder Plus programme consists of three mini weekend-long residentials spread out evenly over the academic year. It also offers a bespoke mentoring and tutoring package to each student.
Feeder Plus is designed as a ‘stepping stone’ to the Core programme and a way in which to build the confidence and abilities of those wanting to eventually join Core. There is no time limit as to how long a student stays on the Feeder Plus programme. Students can remain on the programme for more than one year.
The residentials are a safe and friendly environment for students to experience what is often their first chance to stay away from home. They present the opportunity to spend a weekend with like-minded musicians, focusing on a musical project and an end goal which often results in a final performance to family and friends. The Feeder Plus residential push the students’ learning boundaries and challenge them to become more skillful, creative and confident musicians. The social element of the residentials is also important and give students opportunity for ‘down time’ where they can relax and enjoy getting to know their peers.
We will sometimes invite a select few Core students to the Feeder Plus residentials, which gives Feeder Plus students the opportunity to find out what to expect from the Core programme and ask Core students about their own experiences.
Feeder Plus students also have the added benefit of South West Music School’s expert mentoring and tutoring provision.
South West Music School provides high quality music tuition, with specialist tutors based throughout the region. Each Feeder Plus student is provided with a budget that can pay for this tuition. Alternatively, the budget can cover any existing tuition a student may receive (subject to terms).
Each Feeder Plus student is assigned a mentor. The role of the mentor is to support and nurture the student on their musical pathway. The mentor works with the student on a one-to-one basis to explore their musical development needs. The results of these discussions form the basis for each student’s Individual Learning Plan, which outlines learning goals for the year ahead. Mentors are personally assigned to each student based on their skills, interests and geographical location.
There is a cost for joining all South West Music programmes.
In 2017-18, the Feeder Plus programme will cost £3686. South West Music School can award means tested grants from the Department of Education Music and Dance Scheme to cover the cost of the programme.
