Tim Boulton
Role: Mentor, TutorTim Boulton received his early musical education at specialist music school and music college, but learnt about musical language from association with and observation of Sandor V gh and other senior musicians at the International Musicians Seminars 'Prussia Cove'. He was the viola player of the Vellinger String Quartet from 1998 to 2002 and previously he was a member of the award winning piano quartet Domus and violist with the Raphael Ensemble, specialising in string quintets and sextets. He has performed and broadcast throughout Europe, in North and South America, Israel, Malaysia, China, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Several of his many recordings have been rated as amongst the best chamber music CDs produced. He has also performed extensively with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Chamber Orchestra of Europe and English Chamber Orchestra. Tim is inspired equally by conducting, performing and teaching. After 17 years teaching at Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London, he is now fully involved in music education and performance in the South West. In March 2006 he became principal conductor of the Plymouth based orchestra, the South West Sinfonietta and he has been involved in a number of chamber music concerts in Cornwall over the last three years. His recent new ventures with young people include starting new youth orchestras in Penzance and Truro, and initiating the Cornwall Viola Club. Projects starting up this year will include a residential course for young people in August, a tour of Cornish schools with players from the International Musicians Seminars (Prussia Cove) in September, and a new subscription concert series in Penzance which starts on October 14th with a concert by the Formosa Quartet most recent winners of the London String Quartet Competition.
