application process

We run a two-stage application process, which is informal and friendly. We look for a combination of potential and passion for music as well as exceptional talent.

Stage 1 - Application Form (applications open in February and close in May)

Candidates are asked to complete an application form and return it along with a written reference (this can be from anyone who knows the applicant musically) and a recording of the applicant’s playing/singing. (The recording can be simple and done at home; we are not judging recording quality.)

When applications are open, the application form will be available in related documents in a blue link on the right hand side of the page.  (This link will not be present when applications are not open).

Successful candidates will be invited to attend Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Audition Day (auditions happen in June)

At the audition day, each candidate will give a performance to a panel, work with an accompanist (if appropriate), have a one-to-one discussion about their music and music in general and participate in a group activity.  Auditions usually last the majority of a day.

Successful candidates will spend a year on the Feeder Scheme and will then have the opportunity to move onto the Core Programme.

During residentials I have seen many of the other students progress, both professionally and socially and they are much more confident in performance
