Summary Description of Goals

Find a band

Student outlined that their key goal over the next year is to connect with like-minded musicians towards creating a band. Or to join a band wanting to work with a singer-songwriter. Areas of development around this could be working on some songs with guest musicians to get the songs into a band context, and helping student to look for existing outfits to join.

Vocal coaching

Improve singing technique. Especially around control and not risking damage to voice, e.g. technique around being able to sing for longer (longer live performances, more regular performances etc).

Music Technology

Work experience in a recording studio. Link to own music tech development. Additional training if possible around music tech to music tech in school.

Learning from other guitarists

Sessions with professionals (Alex Lee / Jerry Crozier-Cole). Peer mentoring sessions also with other guitarists same age

Record own music

Make a complete CD.

Record a demo but develop to full CD.

Music business knowledge

Attain greater understanding of music business, esp around copyright.

More performance opportunities

Get more gigs! Both acoustic and solo, and with other musicians.

Develop Practise Timetable

Looking at how it can fit in with every day life

Widen guitar playing styles and techniques

Esp with jazz. V much enjoyed jazz at the first SWMS residential.

Work to develop own songs and improve understanding of songwriting and composition.

Develop My Space / You Tube / Facebook profiles

Guidance on most effective use of online pr and networking.

Individual Exploration

 

Better organisation.

Work on coordinating own plans and goals, planning ahead etc.

Residential Learning

 

Really enjoyed first residential with SWMS

Possible peer to peer sessions at residentials as above? Making joint plans, setting tasks with other guitarists for each residential, for example.

Any Other Activity

 

 

Possible examine further preparation physically for practice and performance, ‘bad pain / good pain’ etc. Develop from work with teacher.
