String Weekend March 2011
The string players from South West Music School joined together for a weekend in March 2011 to play together and learn from each other in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Led by tutor Tim Boulton, the students were put into ensemble groups looking at a Haydn string quartet, a Georges Onslow string quintet, Purcell Golden Sonata and a Schubert piano quintet. They worked on ensemble playing as well as string techniques and a small group of students also performed the world premiere of a composition by Ben Weedon, an SWMS student doing A-Level music with South West Music School.
There was an informal concert at the end of the weekend to share what had been learnt and created which was by all accounts, a great success.
Students on the Core Programme are able to take part in these instrument specific weekends on top of the main residentials that happen through the year.
