Podium Project 2010/11

8 budding conductors worked with internationally renowned conductor Matthew Wood, training over a year to develop their conducting skills.  The year culminated in an opportunity to conduct high level South West Youth Orchestra, overseen by the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Associate Conductor Rui Pinheiro.

The conducting classes provided the students with an introduction to the art of conducting and to develop confidence and proficiency in conducting and rehearsing a variety of ensemble situations.  This was achieved through the practical/physical teaching of conducting style and technique, the academic/study of related musical subjects; instrumentation, orchestration, harmony, theory, repertoire studies, historically informed performance practice, score reading, advanced aural skills.
