Jill Bird

Jill has spent her working life as a professional musician, mentor and advocate for young people. She studied piano at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, before going on to study World Music at Dartington College of Arts.

After working with Arts Organisations including the National Youth Orchestra, Jill trained as a music teacher and worked at primary and secondary schools in the South West. She was Head of Music at KEVICC in Totnes before becoming Assistant Principal with special responsibility for the Arts. In this role Jill was involved in setting up many programmes for young musicians, one of which was a music exchange programme for gifted and talented students in association with Idyllwild and CalArts in California.

Jill was also part of the original steering group that developed the concept of the South West Music School back in 2007.
