Ross Hamilton
Ross Hamilton was brought up in Cornwall and studied percussion with Paul Hiley. He was a member of the award winning Helston School Jazz Orchestra, the Cornwall Youth Orchestra and the Cornwall Youth Percussion Ensemble, taking part in many concert tours including trips to The Edinburgh Festival, France and Italy.
Towards the end of his music degree course at Cardiff University, Ross was selected to perform Ney Rosauro’s Concerto for Marimba and String Orchestra in City Hall, Cardiff. On completion of his studies, he returned to the county, working as a peripatetic percussion teacher with the Cornwall Music Service and has a number of private students. Ross successfully completed a PGCE course run jointly between Cornwall Music Service and Canterbury Christ Church University. He coaches the percussion section of the Cornwall Youth Orchestra and has run Taiko, Samba and African drumming ensembles.
Ross has played in many local stage productions including three consecutive seasons with the Hall For Cornwall Pantomime. On the concert platform he plays percussion and timpani with orchestras throughout Cornwall and Devon, performing a wide range of works from the masses of the classical masters to Walton’s Belshazzar’s Feast and Orff’s Carmina Burana (at least ten times including a performance at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff). He also plays regularly with a nine-piece funk band.
