James Edwards

James Edwards is an international operatic Tenor and an Associate of The Royal Academy of Music. Born in Essex, James began singing as a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, continuing his studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. He made his Royal Opera, Covent Garden debut as an Apprentice Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in 2002. Other roles have included the title role in Albert Herring at the Salzburg Landestheater, Novice Billy Budd and First Commissioner The Carmelites for English National Opera, Push by David Bruce for Tête-à-Tête, Hoffmann The Tales of Hoffmann for Mid Wales Opera, Rodolfo La bohème for Blackheath Halls Opera and Lyric Opera, Dublin, Pinkerton Madam Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay Ltd at the Royal Albert Hall, Pirelli Sweeney Todd at the Gothenburg Opera, Lensky Eugene Onegin for opera by definition, Gustavus Un ballo in maschera for Cork Opera 2005 and First Brother The Seven Deadly Sins for the Royal Ballet. Recordings and broadcasts include The Carmelites for Chandos and Friday Night is Music Night for BBC Radio 2.

On the concert platform he made his BBC Proms debut in 2006, and other engagements have included the Mozart Requiem with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Szymanowski Love Songs of Hafiz with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Verdi Requiem at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea, and the National Concert Hall, Dublin, Viennese Galas with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Opera Galas for Longborough Festival Opera, the Mikkeli City Orchestra, the Orion Symphony Orchestra and the Sussex Symphony Orchestra, Proms in the Park with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Christmas Galas and Last Night of the Spring Proms for Raymond Gubbay Ltd.

He appeared at The Battle Proms 2009 at Althorp Park and his current engagements include Sempronio Lo Speziale on tour with the Israel Camerata, further performances as Pinkerton Madam Butterfly for Raymond Gubbay Ltd at the Royal Albert Hall, Mr Erlanson A Little Night Music at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Tom Rakewell The Rake’s Progress at the Gothenburg Opera, The Duke of Mantua Rigoletto for Grange Park Opera ‘Rising Stars’, Beethoven Choral Symphony for Brighton Philharmonic Orchestra and further Christmas Galas for Raymond Gubbay Ltd. James is also a regular guest artist at the St Endellion Festival and Aujols Festival in France.
