Alastair Durden
Alastair Durden studied at London's Royal Academy of Music, where he studied piano with Guy Jonson and organ with Douglas Hawkridge. He graduated in 1971 with a B.Mus. honours degree, as well as diplomas on the piano and organ. He taught in schools in Dorset and Surrey before moving to Devon, where he built up a private teaching practice as well as visiting schools as a peripatetic piano teacher. In 1984 he was appointed Associate of the Royal Academy of Music for his services to the music profession, and since 1997 he has been Musical Director of the Alvington Singers - a chamber choir based in the South Hams.
